Causes of cyber bullying
1. Peer Pressure: Students may engage in cyberbullying to fit in with a group, seeking approval or popularity by targeting others.
2. Anonymity of the Internet: The perceived anonymity of online platforms emboldens students to say and do things they wouldn't in face-to-face interactions, as they feel less accountable.
3. Jealousy or Envy: Students may cyberbully others out of jealousy, targeting those they perceive as more successful, attractive, or popular.
4. Lack of Empathy: Some students may lack the emotional intelligence or empathy to understand the impact of their actions, leading them to bully without considering the harm they're causing.
5. Revenge or Retaliation: Cyberbullying can also arise as a form of retaliation for previous conflicts, whether online or in-person, with the bully seeking to "get even."
6. Influence of Media and Culture: Exposure to aggressive behavior in social media, TV shows, or video games can normalize bullying behavior, making it seem acceptable or even entertaining to some students.
